HAPPY Earth Day!
As we all take this day to celebrate Mother Earth we are reminded of how imperative we ALL should go green. It is true that one day everyone is saying the words but how many actually practice the words GO GREEN?
In today's hard times going green isn't always easy as some would suggest but here are 5 tips you can contribute to the cause that would cost you little and actually make a profit!
Tip #1 Be aware of your surroundings
Now this means being conscience of how you do things around your home.
For instance: while brushing your teeth use a cup of water instead of letting the faucet run
or when you're in the kitchen before you open the refrigerator or freezer kinda have a clue as to what you want to grab so that way the door isn't open for long periods of time as you try to think of what you want to eat. In either case you would save money on water and electricity.
Tip #2 Travel heavier
Most these days buses or bikes would be the more sensible way to commute to save the planet but it's not ideal for all so how about this: Instead of just you driving in your car create a car pool with your co-workers. Each take turns driving one another, the more the better so that way less cars are out on the road and also freeing up traffic a bit. You can create a cash flow by giving one another gas money or other creative ways since you're saving money on filling up your tank every week!
Tip #3 Economize your bottles
Many of us drink water bottles and yes many water companies are now being more eco-friendly with their bottles but how about this instead: limit them by storing your water through a eco-friendly water bottle. There are many out there you can get, like this one has an array of designs: http://www.mysigg.com/index.asp?Category=3&PageAction=VIEWCATS You'll be saving money on buying water bottles such as when you go to the gym, hikes or other outdoor activities.
Tip #4 Lights out!
Practice this at home and at the office, you'll be amazed how much you save! Many of us go from room to room and leave lights on or t.v.'s on without being aware of it and then wonder why our electric bill is so high?! With rates increasing mainly during the summer and winter months it's good to get in the habit of doing this all year around.
Tip #5 Update your home to save more
Depending your area most homes were built back in the 70's-80's period where eco-friendly didn't receive the recognition as it has today. If you have walls that have not been painted you could be facing highly toxic paint that you breathe on a daily basis. If you find yourself cranking the heater up, have you checked your windows? Poorly insulted windows are the cause of cold air leaks in your home. How about your floors- have you checked them lately? Most people don't know that not updating your floors can cost you more money down the road. Remember floors are the foundation to EVERY home. Maybe it's time to invest a little in your home in return you'll save money down the road.
These are only a few tips to get you started but as always practice the Green way everyday not just one day and you'll be amazed how much a little from all of us really does go a long way.
And again Happy Earth Day everyone!
